JAMES A. MEIER

James A. Meier is one of Wisconsin’s preeminent workers compensation attorneys. Representing both claimants and employers/insurers, Meier is recognized in "The Best Lawyers in America," for his work in this field.

Born March 20, 1949, in Janesville, Wisconsin, Jim received his B.A. from Northwestern University in 1971 and his law degree from Marquette University in 1974.

Jim Meier enjoys a statewide reputation and practice in the area of workers compensation. He has represented thousands of injured individuals, but also represents several of the State’s largest employers, including General Motors and Beloit Corp. He also represents Rock and Jefferson Counties, and the City of Janesville, as well as many insurance carriers. Although he appears before an Administrative Law Judge at hearings on a weekly basis, Jim is more satisfied when he can help clients avoid litigation or achieve a fair settlement of their claims. Because he has experience handling both sides of workers compensation cases, Meier regularly accepts referrals from attorneys throughout the State (for applicants and defense of claims).

A frequent speaker on workers compensation topics, Jim has lectured for the State Bar of Wisconsin, the State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and for numerous employers, self-insureds and insurance industry organizations. Because of his experience, he has also participated as a member of a select group of workers compensation lawyers who have met periodically with the State of Wisconsin Worker’s Compensation Department on an advisory basis.

Married, with three children, Meier is a lifelong Janesville resident and active in many civic organizations.
